Pelican to the Rescue
This is the first post for the companion site to the new YouTube channel. I am moving to Pelican which is static site generator. The bigest reason for this is to make sure I don't have to do maintenance on another WordPress blog.
The advantage of a static site generator like Pelican is that it spits out html files that I can simply host with Apache or whatever web server I prefer. This keeps things more secure because there is no code being executed by the server that could be exploited. I chose pelican because it is written in Python which I am somewhat familar with.
Another nice feature is the ability to use text files with a markup language. Learning how to use Markdown while writing this post. This will enable me to quickly and easly create posts without having to log in, perform updates, learn new interfaces etc.
I am looking forward to creating some content based on Pelican.
- Setting up a web server for Pelican (or any other hosting)
- The process to setup a basic Pelican site
- Migrating from WordPress to Pelican
- Themeing etc
My hope is that simple text files and ease of publishing will result in me posting more frequently.
